Take Care of your Hair

Hello my lovelies,
I woke up quite shattered this morning and decided I would have to pamper myself today. So after spending an hour translating my book of grandmotherly wisdom from French to English, I am now ready to share that wisdom with you, try and fail with you, learn with you.

As I am writing this, I have an avocado and egg yolk in my hair, to rid it from dryness. Whether it will work, we will both find out within the next 15 minutes, but until then I would like to provide you with a little photo tutorial that shows you how to create this powerful mixture.

Just below the video, you’ll find a whole bunch of recipes for all types of hair. None of which I have tried before, but which I will hope to do before the month is out.

The general tip is:
With egg, vinegar and beer you can make your hair do anything.

So here they come; the plethora of recipes:

For dry hair:

Avocado Mask

You will need: 1 avocado, 1 egg yolk
You will do: Mash them together. Apply to dry hair.I suggest using a blender as I was left with a very lumpy mixture, which wouldn’t stick to my hair well. Let sit in your hair for at least 15 minutes before rinsing out like you would usually.

Mask of Olive Oil and Thyme

You will need: 50 ml olive oil, 25 drops of rosemary oil
You will do: Stir together and massage into your hair, especially the tips. Apply on dry hair, then wrap a warm towel around it and wait for at least an hour before washing your hair like usual.

For Greasy Hair:

Lemon Treatment

You will need: 2 lemons, 1 liter of water.
You will do: Simply wash your hair with it.

Vinegar Lotion

You will need: half a liter of water, 5 ml cider vinegar (normal should do fine)
You will do: Rub it on your hair, massaging it into the scalp. Technically you don’t have to wash it out with shampoo, but I would suggest an after rinse with water.

Essential Oil Massage

You will need: Rosemary/lemon/eucalyptus essential oil, your shampoo.
You will do: Add a 2-3 drops of your chosen oil to your normal shampoo and wash your hair as usual. It may seem contradictory to add oils to oily hair, but I think the book says the oils kill each other or something.

For Shiny Hair:

Egg and Rum mixture

You will need: 2-3 egg yolks, 2 tablespoons of rum or cognac, 1 teaspoon almond oil
You will do: Beat the egg yolks and slowly add the rum/cognac and oil until you have a thick lotion. Wet your hair and apply the mixture. Let sit for 5 minutes before rinsing with luke-warm water (too hot and the eggs will cook). Finish the wash with lemon or vinegar infused water. Any smell that remains will disappear soon.

Honey-Egg cream

You will need: 1 teaspoon honey, 1 egg yolk
You will do: On dry hair, apply the mixture and let rest for at least 10 minutes. Cover your hair in a warm towel while you wait. Wash your hair as usual.

Classic Vinegar

You will need: vinegar and water
You will do: After washing your hair, you will add a little bit of vinegar to the water used for the last rinse. Don’t use shampoo afterwards; just dry and do your hair as usual.

    • The video is up in about 20 minutes so you can see how it works! So far, my hair is super soft, and no hair loss (other than the usual amount)! I’ve been stroking my braid like it was a kitty 😛

    • Have you tried talcum powder? It’ll absorb any moisture/oils that rest on your scalp. Dry shampoo is basically the same thing but it smells incredibly flowery, something I’m not sure you’re looking for 😛 Alternatively: a fancy fedora hat 😉
      Thanks Iain!
